Demyelination #AtoZofMS #poetry #AtoZChallenge

Demyelination
The process of damaging or stripping away
myelin from an axon is called demyelination.

The nerves are bare
Where once they were safe
Now they are open
In a risky place

Now those signals
Can fire away
Some get lost
Others stick and stay

My Optic Nerve
Has had enough
They've put up with lots
Now they've given up

My left hand movement
Is less controlled
The nerves for those limbs
Now are like 80 year old

And on my skin
Those nerves are crazy
Fizzing and buzzing
They're never lazy

It's all the fault
Of something attacking
The myelin protection
That's MS happening

Messages that pass along a demyelinated nerve
become delayed or blocked.
As the central nervous system controls
processes throughout the body,
a wide range of symptoms can occur,
depending on where the nerve damage has happened.
For example, damage to areas in the spinal cord
can lead to problems with mobility or weakness.

  1. Impressed how you got this subject into a poem, quite the feat but I'm sure I'm going to be saying that about a lot of your A to Z posts!
